Your tips minus every tip-out — and your real hourly.

Enter your tips, your hours, and who you tip out. This calculator does the rest: your total tip-out, your net take-home after the bar and support get their cut, and your true effective hourly for the shift.

It's free, there's no sign-up, and nothing you type ever leaves your device.

StaffSide

Tired of doing this every shift? StaffSide does it for you — free.

Snap a photo of your checkout slip. It reads your tips, subtracts your tip-outs, and tracks your real hourly all year.

Why the effective hourly is the number that matters

Two shifts with the same tips can pay completely differently once you subtract tip-outs and divide by the hours you actually worked. A slammed six-hour Friday can beat a slow nine-hour double. Your effective hourly cuts through it — it's the honest way to compare shifts, sections, and even jobs.

Do this automatically every shift with StaffSide

This calculator is a one-shot. StaffSide does it for every shift, forever, and for free: snap a photo of your checkout slip and it reads your sales and tips off it, applies your tip-outs, and logs your net and effective hourly automatically.

Over time it ranks your shifts and sections by real hourly, tracks your earnings by week, month, and year, and keeps your history tied to you — not your restaurant — so it follows you even when you change jobs.

Common questions

How do you calculate a tip-out?

Multiply the tip-out base by the percentage. Most restaurants tip out a percentage of your tips (for example, 5% of tips to the bar) or a percentage of your sales (for example, 3% of alcohol or total sales). Add up every role you tip out and subtract that total from your tips to get your real take-home.

What's the difference between tips and take-home?

Your tips are what you collected; your take-home is what you keep after tipping out the bar, bussers, food runners, and anyone else. This calculator shows both, plus your effective hourly — your take-home divided by hours worked — which is the number that actually tells you how good a shift was.

Is this tip-out calculator free?

Yes, completely free and no sign-up. It runs entirely in your browser and nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere. If you want to track your tip-outs and real hourly automatically every shift, StaffSide does that for free too.

Can I tip out on sales instead of tips?

Yes. For any role, switch the base from "tips" to "sales" and enter your total sales. Many bars and restaurants tip out support staff on a percentage of sales rather than tips.
